For the third time, 12 artists have the chance to work artistically on a research project for two months. Under the roof of the Meta Theatre they can experiment, research, exchange ideas and fail. We are excited!
The residency at Meta Theatre will end on 20 May 2023 at 7pm with a public FINALE.
“Children of Compost” as part of the international cooperation project future.repair.machine explores the concept of repair as a sustainable and innovative tool in the cultural social environment of the city of Munich. From June 19 to 22, 2022, the working festival of independent children’s and youth theaters will take place. Under the motto PERSPEKTIV:WECHSEL, SPURENSUCHE aims to initiate change processes and thus ensure more diversity and fewer barriers on the aesthetic, structural and personnel levels.
I am happy to announce that “PAROTIA” will be featured at this year’s edition of the RODEO Festival in October 2022.
“Three dancers spin around their own axis – slowly at first, then faster and faster; their floor-length skirts form colourful spinning tops. That’s all it takes to make Léonard Engel’s Parotia (‘Bird of Paradise’) a spectacular evening of dance. One thinks of classical fouettés, of Bauhaus dances; but also of Sufi whirls, waltzes and Alpine dirndl dancing. The abstract, sensual events cast a spell over you, at the same time forcing you to think about tradition and cultural appropriation. Who ‘owns’ the revolving dance? At the end, the dancers take off their skirts and stagger around the room. The floor sways beneath our feet.”

New round, new luck: 16 artists can once again pursue their artistic research with an open mind under the roof of Meta Theater from February to May 2022. They will be accompanied by mentors and can exchange ideas in monthly work evenings. We are very much looking forward to it!

Feb. 3, 2021 Süddeutsche Zeitung / Ebersberg – Creative in the crisis : art is a process, not a product (German)
My short #TakeCareResidencies interim report on the success of artistic research.
Now, halfway through the residency period, it becomes clear that this is precisely what seems to be the special challenge: to free oneself from the idea of having to “deliver” something, but to be allowed to fail, to allow oneself to follow the traces that become visible in the process without immediately thinking, in an act of self-censorship, about whether this will lead anywhere and whether one will ever reach a goal and result in this way.
Who is the choir today? Who gets to speak? Who is the narrator? Who is writing history? What changes of perspective are necessary? And how does the ancient crisis fan out anew for us against the current and global crisis?
A curious and creative character awakens. Developed inside a computer, it longs to learn…
How do we want our art form and our continent to be reshaped in the future?

In other words, to step out of the mill: to ask, doubt, reject, start anew, ideas, perspectives, experiments, self-understanding – to give space and time to solidary discussions.

MLure.art functions as a hub for the testing and research of machine learning (“artificial intelligence”) in music and theatre. Participants of the research projects: Mathis Nitschke (initiator), Elsa Büsing, Klasien van de Zandschulp, Luciano Pinna, Patrick van der Smagt, Djalel Benbouzid and Boton Cseke.
The essay has now been published in “ACT – Zeitschrift für Musik und Performance” (www.act.uni-bayreuth.de). In it I deal with the dialogicity of the production “ACCATTONE” (J. Simons, Ruhrtriennale 2015). The essay is available for download on demand.
Guest post for Mathis Nitschke on my experiences with the production “Isolde”.
